![]() ![]() Even Yuri felt the weight of what he was doing. She won't generate malevolence if killing doesn't bother her? Not at all? Sounds like a psychopath to me as she just lacks empathy. But the way Rose handles it is just so bizarre that if you're going to defend the game's totally bunk concept of malevolence, then it also makes her out to be a psychopath. There's nothing inherently wrong with writing a character that kills. I think Rose (as well as Sorey) believed that these people probably 'needed' to die, because there was no other practical option. I'm having trouble remembering now, but I think she tried to shoulder an ungodly amount of responsibility herself, becoming overworked and generally ending up in a very unhealthy place. The cardinal was malevolent probably for other reasons besides what she believed. Sorey was prepared to kill too, and I think Rose just thought it would be too traumatizing for him and didn't want it to risk it. If Rose didn't have the stomach for it, she might have become a hellion no matter what she believed. ![]() They'll likely become hellions if they give in. Someone deeply unsatisfied with anything. Someone who can't accept the death of a loved one. Not being able to accept the world or yourself. I thought it was quite clear that malevolence was more of a state of emotional turmoil. Rose did not become distressed, hence she did not generate malevolence. If someone truly believes what they're doing is right, then they won't generate malevolence simply because it just doesn't bother them. They argue that if someone truly believes what they're doing is right, then they won't generate malevolence. Rose, on the other hand, acts like a jerk but is treated like a saint. And because of that, Zelos is a fascinating, bizarrely likable character. Even Lloyd, who comes to trust Zelos with his life, doesn't pull his punches when Zelos is out of line. And yet, he's a fascinating character because the player can still see he has a good heart, especially if you do his soulmate path. Zelos Wilder is an asshole, and the characters acknowledge this PERPETUALLY. I don't want to be TOLD a character is good or pure, I want to see it for myself. This is especially jarring when Sorey believes Alisha has been kidnapped and possibly killed, but all he can talk about is how Rose is such a better squire than Alisha ever was. But if that's the case, then she KNOWS what she's doing is wrong, so it's a moot point.īut not only does she never generate malevolence, but instead the characters and the game bend over backwards to talk about how great she is. Plus, Rose later reveals she does the killing to protect Sorey from becoming unpure. the cardinal also believed she was doing the right thing, and they couldn't save her. Something that bothers me in particular is how an assassin like her doesn't have any malevolence. Some people dislike her because her story was wholly unnecessary, others dislike her because she overshadows Alisha, which is especially frustrating because she doesn't really fit in the story like Alisha did.
